MEASURE O INFORMATION Measure O is on the ballot in San Mateo County on June 3rd to provide new funding to support local parks and recreation. It increases the sales tax by just 1/8 of a cent with all of the funds going to support parks on top of existing funding. For less than $2/month per person, this measure would bring in an estimated $16 million a year for 25 years countywide to support parks and recreation programs. The best part about this money is that spending decisions are made locally. For my community, Burlingame, this additional funding is badly needed to convert playing fields to artificial turf, which would extend playing hours expanding field capacity. This is our best opportunity in years to get the money we need for local park field upgrades.
