![]() ![]() NewsBURLINGAME FLAMES 2009 SUMMER ALL-STAR NEWS 06.15.09 THE 10U FLAMES B The 2009 Buringame Flames are rocking it in all the divisions this summer. The 10U Flames (B) have posted a 22-1 record this season capturing championship titles in San Carlos (on Firenze field) in the MacPherson? Memorial Day Tournament, San Mateo's Feeley Tournament on June 5,6,7, and San Jose Bagby Classic June 13 and 14. They also took third place in the Morgan Hill Pride Tournament. These young ladies are playing some amazing softball led by pitcher Sara Slavsky. The other side of that duo is Lindsey Schloetter our catcher and one of our key power hitters. Christina Monisteri also pitches and rounds out her infield work at second base. Reina Vierra has been batting fourth and knocking the balls dead at short-stop. Amelia Milne plays first base and is one of finest hitters. Clare Colson rounds out the infield at third base when she's not stealing it on the other team. Makenna Firenze helps in the infield at second and plays a mean left field. Katie Terrones has been a huge help at the plate with her strong batting and excellent outfield skills. She is surrounded on either side by Natalie Zimits, Bridget Bell, and Lilly Blakey who round out the team's defense. Natalie's timely hits and Bridget's excellent on-base percentage have really helped the team. Lilly's outstanding baserunning has been a critical part of the team's scoring success. Malia Smith is one of our fine utility players, comfortable in nearly any position on the field and in the batter's box as well. The team is rounded out with Jaida Chan and Audrey Oliver who both pitch and play outfield, and Jordyn Stanley who has helped out with her fine batting skills and team spirit. Cristina Piscitello has been out with an injury but we hope to have her back playing soon. THE 12U FLAMES C This fine team made a strong showing in the Redwood City C tournament winning three of five games with pitcher Samantha Dean leading the charge and Samantha Solow and Samantha Liston helping her out at key times. Catcher Dana Williams has been throwing the ball down with gusto and is a threat to all baserunners. Sydney Oliver's bat has been superb and she is helping them out on the third base side of the field. Clara Lane, one of our seasoned returning players has been a true team leader and outstanding infielder. Mia Vierra and Jenny Chiapelone are smashing the ball and playing excellent offense. Meg Sanford has been one of our strong outfielders and a great utility player as well as speedy on the bases. Frankie Martinez and Zarina Wong round out the team with their amazing heads-up play and powerful at-bats. It has been a good season for this young team. THE 14U FLAMES B The 14U Flames have had successful tournament season so far winning first place in the Millbrae tournament, second place in the San Carlos tournament and have great time down in San Diego where they played in a tournament in Santee. You can see pictures of the team in the Photos section of the web site. This season they still have three tournaments left - South Lake Tahoe, Nor Cal championships in Sunnyvale (where many members of the team were part of the Burlingame Flames 12U NorCal? champions last season) and Pleasanton.
News ArchiveSoftball Safety First - Defender's Masks 04.20.09 For clarification in our 8U and 10U divisions, here are the BGS league rules regarding defender masks protective gear. In 8U girls must wear a defender's mask in the infield at P,1B,2B,3B,SS. Catcher wears catcher's gear. If a family does not want to purchase a defender's mask or does not want their child to wear one, the child may play in the outfield. In 10U, the masks are mandatory for P,1B,3B. The masks are highly recommended for all players in any all divisions of play for game and practice. The masks are available at our cost of $40 to players at the snack shack. Any family not able to afford a mask, please contact Donna Colson at d.colson@comcast.net and the league will provide one. Several other local leagues have also mandated the masks and many girls are wearing them. According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Division, over 100,000 children under the age of 14 suffer facial trauma during youth sports with the highest indicent being female pitchers in softball leagues. We thank those families and coaches that have complied with these rule changes.
