Burlingame Girls Softball 2013 Summer Travel Teams

04.11.13

The “Burlingame Flames” are the league’s competitive or All-Star teams that play in ASA Junior Olympic “B” & “C” tournaments during the summer. Each year we form teams in the 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions if we have enough players. We also form several 8U teams to play a short season in both in jamboree and elimination format tournaments.

The summer travel teams are an excellent way for players with above average softball talent or an exceptional desire to play to continue their season for up to two months each summer. The summer travel teams test their skills at a higher level of competition with the best players in the league. The summer season consists of weekend tournaments some of which involve travel. The teams form right after the recreation season ends in early-May. The team coaches, division coordinators, President and Vice Presidents of BGS select players for each team based on skill demonstrated during the season, coach recommendations, a viewing day, and overall availability to play during the summer.

To register for summer travel teams, please complete the following form and plan to attend the mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday April 24 at the Burlingame Park and Rec 7:15 PM for the 8U and 10U, 8:00 PM for the 12U and 14U divisions.

Crazy Sock Night, Player Clinic and Other Key Dates

01.24.13

Wow – Spring 2013 Softball Season is right around the corner! Here are a few dates to mark on the calendar.
Our first league-wide event of the season is Crazy Sock Night, next Wednesday, 30 Jan, in the BIS Auditorium. This is big night when all the girls finally get to meet their teammates and coaches for the upcoming 2013 season (plus, as the name suggests, the coaches will hand out the Crazy Socks)! Please try to arrive no later than 6:30, so that we can start the program at 6:45 sharp.
BIS is located at 1715 Queseda Way, one block south of Trousdale, and a couple of blocks west of El Camino – click here for a map. Parking can be an issue around BIS, so leave a couple of extra minutes to walk from down the block.

Other key upcoming dates to note:
• PLAYER CLINIC FEB 3 SUNDAY - For 6U, 8U and 10U players (and their coaches) – Clinic with the Cal Gamers (Burlingame-based A-ball team) on Sunday, 3 Feb 2013 at 8:30 AM – please see attached flyer for all the details (and save $10 by registering in advance). This is a great chance for our younger girls to come out and start their season off with some professional training from the Gamers coaching staff, and work directly with the Gamer players (high school age), several whom are former Burlingame Flames. To sign up go to www.burlingamer.com and sign up!
• COACH CLINIC JAN 27 SUNDAY – Franklin Field 2:00-4:30 - this is free for all coaches and assistant coaches - sharpen your coaching skills before the season starts with professional instruction by Cutting Edge Softball!
• OPENING DAY AND PICTURE DAY MARCH 2 SATURDAY – plan to play and to look your best!
• Spring Break – we plan to not schedule games on Saturday, 30 March, or on weeknights 1-5 April. There will be games scheduled on Saturday, 6 April.
• ALL STAR TRYOUTS tryouts for the 10U, 12U and 14U ASA summer travel teams will be in the evening of Wednesday, 1 May 2013. Tryouts for 8U will be the following week.
• End of Spring Season – the spring season will end on Saturday, 4 May 2013
The excitement is building – it’s going to be a fantastic season!
